Winners emerge in Bible quiz competition
Daniela Robert, 9 and Doreta Abu, 9 both Primary five pupils of Christ Redeemer’s Victor’s School (CRVS) came first in the 2023 Primary Schools Bible Competition (PSBC) organized by the Bible Society of Nigeria, consequently spotlighting their school as the winner of this year’s competition which was held at Igbobi College, Yaba, Lagos.
Speaking at the event, the General Secretary, Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN), Pastor Samuel Sanusi who was represented by the Assistant General Secretary, Finance, BSN, Yemisi Oluwagbemi said nine schools out of all the schools that participated at the preliminary stage made it to the final and were all awarded certificates.
“What we have done today should be embraced by all in line with the Word of God that says:
“Train up a child in the way he should go and when he grows, he will not depart from it.
“We are catching these primary school pupils young and their performances today were amazing and intimidating and if they can carry on like this to the secondary and tertiary institutions, one can be rest assured that there is hope for this country.
“They memorized by heart the portions of the Bible given to them for that purpose as their performance today showed that they thoroughly studied the 100 books of Bible stories assigned to them” he said.
Sanusi advised parents to continue to encourage the children, satisfy their inquisitiveness by always responding positively to their questions.
He called on the government not to restrict its funding to public schools but to find a way of extending the largesse to schools for the sake of the children as well as entrenching scriptural teachings right from Primary School to tertiary level in the country.
He also called on the well meaning Nigerians to sponsor every category of Bible Quiz being organized by BSN which has the potency of bringing up the children in the way of the Lord and adequately prepare them as tomorrow’s owners and leaders of the country.
Robert who was happy with her school coming first said she read thoroughly the scriptural passages for the competition and also told her mother to ask her questions in that direction. Abu said she was glad to make her school proud and would continue to do so anytime similar opportunity arises.
