Ugochinyere applauds Tinubu for signing SEDC bill into law

Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, representing Ideato North South Federal Constituency of Imo State, has commended President Bola Tinubu for signing the South East Development Commission (SEDC) bill into law. The lawmaker also expressed his gratitude to the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, for sponsoring the bill alongside all southeast federal lawmakers.

The bill, championed by Kalu and co-sponsored by lawmakers from the southeast region, aims to establish a commission responsible for managing funds from the federation account for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of roads, houses, and other infrastructure damaged by the civil war over 54 years ago. The commission will also address ecological problems and other developmental challenges in the Southeast states.

The commission is set to tackle the region’s critical needs by receiving and managing funds for infrastructure reconstruction and addressing ecological and environmental challenges.

In a statement, Hon. Ugochinyere thanked President Tinubu, his colleagues in the National Assembly, and all Nigerians for supporting the bill. He highlighted the significance of the commission in addressing the critical needs of the Igbo people and expressed optimism about the positive impact it will have on the Southeast region.

He said Igbo people are elated, noting that the commission when established will address the region’s critical needs.
