SWAN advocates reading culture among school girls

To encourage reading habits in the Girl-Child, Society of Women Accountants of Nigeria (SWAN) with its equipping schools’ libraries project, has donated books to Lagos Anglican Girls’ Grammar School (LAGGS), in Surulere, Lagos.

The Society also established an accounting club in the school titled ‘SWAN/Institute of Chartered Accounting of Nigeria (ICAN) Future Accountants Club’, with the aim of providing support to students develop soft skills.

National Chairperson of SWAN, Hilda Ofure Ozoh said the books donated will assist in widening students’ knowledge if focused and serious in their studies.
Ozoh added that a well-equipped library, offers an excellent academic environment for students where they can concentrate and reach out to explore different subjects in a one-stop peaceful surrounding.

Libraries she said offers good research background for an aspiring student to learn, think, create, share and grow with no worries on affordability.

“SWAN believes in knowledge, in research, in exploring, learning, and improvement. Without knowledge, as a student and even as a professional, you cannot fulfil your potential. That is why equipping libraries with professional books is one of our special projects,” she stated.

She also emphasised the importance of an accounting club in the school as it provides a foundational understanding of financial information structure and enhances accounting literacy.

Chairperson of the project, Mrs. Ronke Akeredolu said the aim of the project is to empower and inspire the Girl-Child, promote and improve the reading culture in Secondary Schools students.

While principal of the school, Folashade Ogedenba applauded the Society for the great initiatives and opportunities brought to the school as a way of impacting the students.
