The President of Rotary Club of Festac Town for 2026-2027, Rotarian McAnthony Echefu, has promised to build a stronger club and healthier communities through impactful and sustainable service.

To achieve this, he said that he would focus on restructuring, restrategising and repositioning the club.

Speaking when the immediate past president, Sir Henry Enyinna, handed over the leadership of the club to him, Echefu said the club would execute impactful signature projects that address critical needs in the community under his watch.

He added: “These include establishing a Heart Health Screening Room to promote early detection of hypertension and cardiovascular diseases through our campaign, ‘Know Your Numbers, Save Your Life’; establishing a Glaucoma Screening Room to help prevent avoidable blindness through early diagnosis; executing a solar-powered borehole project to provide safe and sustainable access to clean water for an underserved community. These are projects that will leave a lasting legacy and reflect Rotary’s commitment to improving lives. We will strengthen our commitment to The Rotary Foundation.”

He disclosed that the club would introduce important innovations within the Rotary year. “To strengthen fellowship, we are unbundling our meetings,” he said. “One meeting every month will be designated as a Jersey or BBQ Fellowship, creating a relaxed atmosphere where members, families and guests can connect, build friendships and attract prospective Rotarians. To strengthen governance, we are establishing a Finance Committee to support sound financial management, transparency, accountability and prudent stewardship of our club’s resources.”

Echefu solicited the support of the members, noting that, “no President succeeds alone.”

“The success of this administration will depend on every one of us. I therefore ask for your support, your ideas, your active participation, and your continued commitment to service above self.”

In his handover speech, Enyinna described his tenure as inspiring.

“This has been a year of teamwork, dedication and impactful service. Together, we successfully implemented projects across Rotary’s seven Areas of Focus. These achievements were only possible because of the unwavering commitment and generosity of every member of the Rotary Club of Festac Town, our district leadership, partners, donors and well-wishers. I sincerely thank you all for believing in our vision and working together to make a difference,” he said.
