The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, says his team plans to deploy an independent system to transmit election results directly from every polling unit to its situation room ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Obi disclosed this in an exclusive interview with ARISE 3News, outlining his team’s plan to ensure that votes are accurately counted, recorded and transmitted during the election.

He said the proposed system would operate alongside the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) official results transmission platform, enabling his team to receive and verify results from individual polling units independently.

“We must make sure that at every polling unit, the votes are counted, the votes are recorded properly, the votes are transmitted properly. And we will have even a dual transmission, so that as it’s going to the proper designated INEC portal, it’s also being transmitted where the people can see it.”

Peter Obi said the proposed system would enable his team to receive results directly from polling units and independently verify the outcome of the election.

“All we are saying is that this time around, we will make sure that in every polling unit, we must have a system that transmits to our situation room the correct results.”

Obi said the system would help prevent situations in which results announced at higher levels differ from those recorded at polling units.

“I want us to make sure that the right things are done. There’s nothing difficult in having a simple, free, transparent election. It happens in Ghana, It happens everywhere.”

There were renewed concerns about the credibility and safety of the 2027 elections yesterday as the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, urged Nigerians to protect their votes, while the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) warned politicians against inflammatory rhetoric capable of provoking violence.

Obi charged the electoral umpire to resist political manipulation and ensure that Nigerians’ votes count in the polls.

He spoke in Ogugu, Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State, during a thank-you tour organised to appreciate supporters following the emergence of Peter Ameh as the NDC’s Kogi East senatorial candidate.#

The former Anambra State governor, who was received by a large crowd of supporters, urged INEC to conduct the 2027 elections in a free, fair and transparent manner, stressing that the will of the electorate must be respected.

He also urged Nigerians to take responsibility for protecting their votes, saying the integrity of the electoral process ultimately depends on citizens ensuring that their ballots are counted and their choices reflected in the results.
