It’s A Wrap For Abuja Filmfest… Up Next Is AFRIFF
The 2024 edition of Abuja International Film Festival closed on Friday November 1, with an award ceremony. The festival opened on October 28 at the Silverbird Cinema Abuja. There were a total of 1254 entries from 45 countries. From Abuja, the festival train will move to Lagos for the 13th edition of the yearly Nigeria domiciled Africa International Film Festival, otherwise called AFRIFF. This edition, which will be held under the theme of Indigenous To Global: Cultural Wealth To Global Prosperity will hold in Lagos between November 3 and 9. Building on the triumphs of previous editions, founder and President of AFRIFF, Chioma Ude, disclosed that AFRIFF 2024 is planned to be more exhilarating and an impactful event. Ude noted that the festival would continue to showcase the best of African cinema, featuring a diverse selection of films from across the continent and the diaspora. She also stated that the programme of the festival would encompass feature films, documentaries, short films, and animation, ensuring a captivating experience for all. Other highlights of the festival include a major spotlight on emerging filmmakers, African animation showcase, virtual reality experiences, industry days and a script to screen project which is to be held in partnership with the African Export Import Bank (Afreximbank) through its Creative Africa Nexus (CANEX) programme.

From AFRIFF To Zuma Filmfest In Abuja
THE 2024 edition of the Zuma Film Festival (ZUFF) will hold from December 1 to 5 in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital and the official host city. Themed, Digital Renaissance: Embracing the Future, ZUFF 2024, the theme of the 14th edition, vividly captures and will project the vibrant and transformative imperativeness of the digital age in upscaling motion picture practice that support the growth of creative economies of nations of the world. NFC’s Managing Director/Chief Executive, Dr. Ali Nuhu, on behalf of the corporation and the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) says that efforts in mounting Zuma film festival 2024 have since commenced, given the national and global importance as well as its short-, medium- and long-term positive impact on the nation’s creative sector. Nuhu assured that both the FCTA and the NFC are committed to mounting ZUFF 2024. He equally assured that ZUFF will continue to provide opportunities and empower filmmakers to embrace the digital renaissance movement, by positioning them at the forefront of global cinematic conversation and narratives, while at the same time sustaining Nigeria’s dominance within the regional and continental creative economy. The festival will feature daily film screening, film master classes, symposia, film and television market, content creation and exhibition fora, film project pitching sessions, co-production engagements, states and foreign nations (Embassy/High Commission) special days; special lifetime tributes, and the prestigious ZUMA Awards. Given the festival bouquet which has consistently been enhanced to address all sectors of the film production value chain; the five-day gathering of film and television industry stakeholders will once more offer an opportunity to present the best of Nigeria’s arts, creative, film and entertainment industry to the world, Etuk said. ZUMA Film Festival is being jointly hosted by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and the Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC).

Tokyo International Film Festival Gets Underway
THE Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) is thrilled to unveil an unprecedented variety of special programs and screenings for its upcoming 37th edition, running from October 28 through November 6, 2024. With an exceptional roster of international guests from all corners of the globe, the festival anticipates a significant surge in excitement for the largest international film festival in Japan. The organizers recently unveiled two highlighted special programs and screenings for its upcoming 37th edition. The programmes are TIFF Lounge and screening which will feature an exciting lineup of five talk sessions with a rich variety of guests, selected by a committee that includes director Kore-eda Hirokazu. Hosted by the Japan Foundation and TIFF acclaimed and emerging filmmakers from a variety of countries and regions in Asia and beyond have been invited to Tokyo, and the lounge according to organizers will provide a place for filmmakers gathering at TIFF to interact and present talk sessions where they can share their stories. The festival ends on November 6.

Submissions Still Open For Hot Docs Festival 2025
ENTRIES are now open for the 32nd yearly Hot Doc Festival, which will hold from April 24 to May 4, 2025 in Toronto. Festival Programming Director, Heather Haynes, would lead the curation of an outstanding lineup of more than 100 documentaries from Canada and around the world. Industry programs offered at the festival are currently being planned to prioritise intimate networking opportunities, meaningful knowledge sharing and impactful market initiatives.
