Bamidele tasks professionals on job creation, standard of living

Urges estate surveyors to curb exploitation of tenants

The Senate Leader, Michael Bamidele, has advised professional bodies to advocate policies that will promote job creation, reduce poverty and improve standard of living for all Nigerians.

He also charged them to encourage entrepreneurship and innovation by providing resources for start-ups and small businesses. Bamidele, who was the guest lecturer at the inauguration of the 26th President and Chairman of Council of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV), Victor Alonge, in Abuja, urged them to use their expertise, skills and influence to drive positive changes in the country.

He, however, assured the professional bodies that the country’s apex legislative institution would continue to pass laws that recognise and regulate professional bodies, giving them a clear and strong legal framework to operate.

These, according to him, include laws that establish professional standards, ethics, and codes of conduct, as well as provide more budgetary support to professional bodies, enabling them to carry out their functions and activities effectively.

Also, Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, called on the institution to take the lead in curbing the exploitation of tenants by real estate agents, stressing the need for the institution to establish integrity and discipline in the industry.

Akpabio, who emphasised the importance of partnerships and integrity in achieving sustainable development and prosperity for all Nigerians, lauded estate surveyors for their dedication to excellence and service to humanity.

Meanwhile, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has revealed plans to increase the contribution of the real estate sector to the state’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) from five to six per cent to 15-20 per cent.

He, therefore, sought for partnership with the real estate professionals to increase the GDP in the state, saying: “We all have a role to play in taking this profession to the next level.”

Alonge stated that the poor state of the real estate sector has continually stifles its capacity to optimally contribute to national economic growth and enhance the potential in the country.

The NIESV President said that the institution would step up support and collaboration with the government in the areas of policy formulation and implementation, among others, to improve real estate sector’s contribution to our economic development.Alonge further said that the institution would continue to play a leading role in supporting government.

NIESV president also pledged to lead initiatives that will enhance the relevance of the profession, as well as the fortunes and well-being of our members across the country.

He, therefore, promised not to betray shared values and invaluable ideals of honesty, devotion, integrity, and professionalism, as well as consolidate on the accomplishments and enviable antecedents of founding fathers and predecessors to pilot the institution to a higher pedestal.
