Grid collapses again, barely 24 hrs after previous outage

In a development that has left many parts of the country in darkness, the national power grid has collapsed once again, less than 24 hours after its previous failure.

The latest collapse occurred at 09:17hrs today, plunging several states into another round of power outages.

However, at 10 a.m., supply from the grid dropped abruptly to 0MW across all regions, throwing the entire nation into another round of total darkness.

The incident marks the second grid collapse in less than 24 hours raising serious concerns about the stability of the nation’s electricity supply.

Just yesterday, a similar failure occurred, disrupting power distribution to millions of households and businesses. While efforts to restore electricity are underway, this back-to-back collapse has sparked frustration among citizens and highlighted the fragility of the national power infrastructure.

Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) confirmed the system collapse which resulted in loss of power.

“Dear Valued Customer, Kindly be informed there was a system collapse at 09:17hrs which has resulted to a loss of power supply across our network.

“We are currently working with our partners as we hope for speedy restoration of the grid. We will keep you updated as soon as power supply is restored,” it stated.

Power supply was distributed across several Distribution Companies (DisCos), with Abuja allocated 44MW, Benin 35MW, Eko 62MW, Enugu 40MW, Ibadan 85MW, Ikeja 72MW, Jos 10MW, Kaduna 15MW, Kano 20MW, Port Harcourt 23MW and Yola 11MW
