Supreme Court reverses sack of Kano governor Yusuf
The Supreme Court has resolved the dispute on the dispute Kano governorship election in favour of Abba Yusuf
Reading the judgment, Justice John Okoro set aside the lower court’s judgment that nullified Abba Yusuf’s election as governor of Kano State.
The Kano State Governor and candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Abba Yusuf, is seeking to overturn the verdicts of the Court of Appeal and election petitions tribunal, which nullified his victory in the March 18 governorship poll.
The two lower courts declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Nasir Gawuna, as the poll winner.
The judgment of the Court of Appeal sacking Yusuf created tension. It provoked protests in Kano, following reported discrepancies in the certified true copy of the judgment, which the court later said was a clerical error.
The apex court in its judgment held that the lower court erred in delving into investigating the membership of the appellant as much as the party has fielded the appellant.
