Court jails driver 18 months for stealing motorcycle

A Jos Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday sentenced a 22-year-old driver, Nura Mohammed, to 18 months in prison for stealing a motorcycle valued at N600,000.

The magistrate, Shawomi Bokkos, summarily sentenced the convict after he pleaded guilty to the charge.

Bokkos, in her judgement, however, ordered the convict to pay an option of fine of N50, 000 or one year in prison, and a compensation of N15, 000 or another six months in prison.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Ibrahim Gokwat, had told the court that the case was reported on Jan. 16, at the Laranto Police Station by one Umar Aliyu, the complainant.

Gokwat said that the convict broke into the complainant’s house and stole the motorcycle valued at N600, 000.

The offence, he said contravened the Plateau Penal Code Law.

He also said that the police recovered the motorcycle and returned same to the owner.
