Lawal inspects seized arms cache, commends DSS
Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, on Tuesday night praised the Department of State Services (DSS) for its collaboration with the Nigerian Armed Forces, which led to the seizure of a significant arms and ammunition cache being transported from Niger Republic.
The governor’s praise followed his inspection of the seized arms and ammunition in Gusau, the state capital.
Lawal expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his strong support of the DSS and the military, efforts that have contributed to enhancing security in Zamfara State and across Nigeria.
He assured that his administration would continue to support the security agencies in the state in their fight against terrorism and criminal activities.
He also commended DSS officers, expressing confidence in the Service’s ability to maintain the country’s internal security.
DSS operatives, in collaboration with troops from Operation Fansan Yamma, tracked notorious arms courier Abubakar Umar, also known as Dangada, from Niger Republic to the Kaura Namoda-Zurmi Road on Monday and Tuesday.
Security sources revealed that DSS intelligence indicated Umar was tasked with transporting the munitions from Niger Republic to Birnin Magaji LGA for delivery to key bandit leaders, including Kachallah Atta, Alhaji Shinge, Alhaji Nashama, and a certain Zaki.
The arms couriers abandoned a red Abuja-registered Volkswagen Golf station wagon (RBC 731 GU) after fleeing with serious gunshot wounds.
Inside the vehicle, operatives recovered seven AK-47 rifles, two PKT GPMG machine guns, and two AK-103 rifles. Additionally, 169 rounds of 7.62x39mm calibre ammunition, nine PKT rounds, one chain, and 13 empty magazines were seized.
