Man drowns in Kano pond
A lifeless body of a 30-year-old man, Rabiu Sani, was recovered from a nearby river in Kunture village, Ungogo Local Government Area of Kano State.
The young man drowned in the pond and subsequently died in the pool while struggling to pull himself out of the water.
The tragic incident occurred on Saturday when the deceased was sent by his parents to fetch water for domestic use from the pond.
Sani, who did not return home with the pot of water as expected several hours after he left, was said to have lost the battle in the pool while trying to fetch.
Confirming the development, the spokesman of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, said the service rescued Sani, who was unconscious, from the pond.
He said the service received a distress call from a police officer, Silas Munkhaila, who notified them of the incident, stating that the late Musa had fallen into the pond while trying to fetch water.
“The emergency rescue team from the state headquarters gathered at the scene of the incident, where they arrived at about 10:15 a.m. On their arrival, they found a 30-year-old man named Rabiu Sani, who had fallen into the puddle while he was fetching water when he was sent by his father,” he said.
Abdullahi explained that immediately, the rescue team pulled out the victim, who was unconscious, but he was later confirmed dead.
The corpse, according to Abdullahi, was handed over to the ward head of Kunture town, Alh. Uba Abdulkadir, to be delivered to the immediate family of the deceased.
