NCoS partners Ministry of Livestock for viable economic development
The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) says it’s partnering with the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development to harness the service’s farmlands for viable economic development.
The Acting Controller-General, NCoS, Mr Sylvester Nwakuche, made this known when he visited the Minister of Livestock Development, Dr Idi Maiha.
This is contained in a statement by the Service Public Relations Officer (SPRO), Abubakar Umar, on Tuesday in Abuja.
Nwakuche said the visit was to explore a groundbreaking collaboration between the NCoS and the ministry.
He said that the focus was to harness the service’s farmlands into viable economic hubs.
He congratulated Maiha on his appointment as the pioneer minister of the ministry and thanked him for the warm reception.
“The Corrections farms are part of the Service’s reformatory efforts, providing inmates with a lifetime opportunity for rehabilitation upon discharge,” he said.
Nwakuche later presented an overview of the NCoS agricultural projects and production activities across the country to the ministry boss.
He said they are seeking strategic partnership with the ministry to reposition the farm centers for greater productivity.
In his remarks, Maiha expressed delight in the partnership, saying that the NCoS agricultural assets offer a unique opportunity for growth, with secured farmlands and available labour.
He commended the Ag. CGC on his visionary leadership and pledged the ministry’s support towards actualising the mandates of the service through strategic partnership.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the development is expected to boost the Nigerian agricultural sector and also provide a fresh start for inmates upon their release.
