TotalEnergies donates mammography facility for cancer treatment to FUTH
TotalEnergies has donated mammography, a health Federal University of Lafia Teaching Hospital, FUTH Lafia.
The new health facility was inaugurated on Tuesday by the Nasarawa state deputy governor, Dr Emmanuel Akabe, at the Cancer Centre of DASH, Lafia.
Akabe described the medical equipment facility donated by TotalEnergies as the latest in the treatment of cancer patients.
Akabe noted that with the latest equipment, the state-owned hospital is equipped to provide improved access to quality healthcare and reduce the fatality rate associated with breast cancer, which is killing over 14,000 women in Nigeria annually, according to a 2020 report by the Global Cancer Observatory.
The Managing Director of TotalEnergies, Mr. Matthieu Bouyer, who was represented by Acting General Manager of Corporate Social Responsibility, Mrs. Tonye Osifo, disclosed that the new mammography centre would provide access to affordable early diagnosis and detection and aid in the prompt treatment and follow-up of patients, saving thousands of lives in the process.
The MD described the donated health facility as a symbol of hope for women at risk of breast cancer across the country,
Since 2019, TotalEnergies, alongside its partners, has donated many other fully equipped mammography centres to communities nationwide as part of its corporate social responsibility commitment to the people.
In his remark, Dr Ikrama Hassan, the Chief Medical Director, FUTH commended TotalEnergies and her partners for sitting the project in Nasarawa State.

“With this equipment, the scourge of breast cancer will be reduced in the State. It will also save our patients the stress of going to other states to get treatment,” Hassan said.
“We sincerely thank Governor Abdullahi Sule for providing a conducive environment at the hospital that attracts the sitting of the project in the Teaching Hospital.
“We assure you that the Mammography centre will be used for the benefit of the state.”
The Emir of Lafia, Justice Sidi Bage Rtd, applauded Governor Sule for enabling the conversation of DASH to a Teaching Hospital.
He thanked TotalEngeries and their partners for providing the facility to the people.
