FG empowers women, youths on tomato, pepper production in Adamawa

The Federal Government says it has trained 100 youths and women in agribusiness, focusing on tomato/pepper production in Gombi/Hong Federal Constituency, Adamawa State.

The Federal Government says it has trained 100 youths and women in agribusiness, focusing on tomato/pepper production in Gombi/Hong Federal Constituency, Adamawa State.

The training, followed with empowerment of beneficiaries, was oragnised by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, in conjunction with the National Horticultural Research Institute (NIHORT).

The training covered nursery practices, transplanting techniques, field establishment and management, control of pests and diseases, harvesting techniques, as well as tomato and pepper value addition. The training was aimed at building the capacity of youth and women on tomato and pepper production for creating wealth and generating means of sustainable livelihood.

The facilitator’s Representative of the facilitator, Mr. Solomon Adamu, who commended the Federal Government for the gesture, also thanked James Barka, the legislator representing Gombi/Hong Federal Constituency, Adamawa State for facilitating the programme.

He urged the participants to take advantage of the training to acquire knowledge and skills, which will enable them to establish their own tomato and pepper farms, thereby contributing to food and nutrition security in the country.

On behalf of others, two of the participants thanked the Federal Government and the legislator for organising such training at this time. They promised to put into practice the knowledge acquired during the training.
