Kwara State is witnessing celebrations as Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq delivers on his promise to complete the Osi and Ilesha Baruba campuses of the Kwara State University (KWASU). The campuses, set to commence academic sessions, mark a significant milestone in the state’s educational development and fulfilment of a long-standing commitment to infrastructure advancement.

The Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Dr Mary Arinde, announced over the weekend that the Osi campus in Ekiti Local Government is 98% complete, with students from the Department of Fine and Applied Arts under the new Faculty of Environmental Sciences resuming lectures on Monday, November 18. Meanwhile, the Ilesha Baruba campus will welcome students from the Faculty of Agriculture in January 2024.

Dr Arinde, accompanied by the Head of KWASU Osi Campus, Prof. Binta A Sulyman, and the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, expressed satisfaction with the project’s progress. “This is a job well done, with superb quality. The major work left involves fixing the roads and surroundings, which are ongoing,” she stated. The Commissioner praised the Governor for overcoming initial challenges to see the project through, earning widespread admiration from the host communities.

Prof. Binta highlighted the extensive facilities on the KWASU Osi campus, which include lecture theatres, studios, a 2,000-capacity auditorium, car parks, a computer centre, and recreational spaces. She confirmed that the Faculty of Environmental Sciences will begin operations immediately, with more academic departments, including Estate Management, Architecture, Urban and Regional Development, and Quantity Survey, set to start in January.

The new campuses are expected to boost the local economy significantly, attracting students, staff, and businesses to the area. Prof. Binta commended Governor Abdulrazaq’s dedication, stating, “This project has endeared him to the communities, who are overwhelmed with joy.”

The delivery of the KWASU Osi and KWASU Ilesha Baruba campuses underscores Governor Abdulrazaq’s commitment to expanding access to quality tertiary education and fostering economic growth in Kwara State. As academic activities commence, the campuses are poised to become vibrant hubs of learning and development.
