The King’s College Old Boys’ Association (KCOBA) has announced activities for its 115th Founders Day anniversary, otherwise known as Kingsweek 2024, in Lagos.
This year’s Kingsweek, themed: “Achieving a secured Nigeria by 2030” is scheduled to hold between September 16 and 22, with a series of engaging and impactful events.

Addressing reporters on activities lined up for the event, Chairman, Planning Committee, Tonye Cole, described the theme as apt, coming at a time when national security is at the forefront of Nigeria’s developmental challenges.

Cole noted that the theme reflected the urgency of addressing the multifaceted security issues—from social and financial security to national, information, and energy security, confronting the nation.

According to him, these issues are critical to the nation’s sustainability and future growth, adding that the association would be engaging leaders of thought, alumni, students, and the broader public, in meaningful conversations on how to secure Nigeria’s future.”

Cole added that the event will feature a diverse array of events, aimed at fostering dialogue, celebrating achievements, and strengthening the bonds within the King’s College Old Boys’ global community.

He disclosed that the week will kick-off on September 16, with a virtual conference, where members in diaspora, alongside local participants, would discuss the theme of national security.

He said the virtual event, which would be moderated by an old student, Moses Nasamu, will feature distinguished panelists, including: Prof. Muyiwa Oyinlola, who is the Director of Energy and Sustainable Development at De Montfort University, United Kingdom; Dr Fola Aina, an associate fellow at the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), London, United Kingdom, and a fellow at the Joint Special Operations University (JSOU), Florida, United States, and Dr Timi Oke, who will bring their expertise to bear on the pressing issue of Nigeria’s security.

Former Minister of Finance and Executive Director on the board of the World Bank Group, Dr Mansur Muhtar, will be the keynote speaker.
