‘Qualitative learning key to sound economy’

Economy-spectaclesFor the country to develop a virile and strong economy, which would ultimately accelerate its socio-economic development, there is the compelling need for qualitative and vibrant education, particularly at primary school level, and all the way up to the tertiary level.

A director in the Federal Ministry of Education, Mrs. Oyinade Osinubi, made the submission during the award of scholarships to 12 pupils by CANI School, Egan-Igando, Lagos, recently.

While delivering the keynote address, Osinubi, who was the guest of honour at the award ceremony said, “Qualitative education will contribute immensely to building a strong and vibrant Nigerian economy.

These awards by CANI School is a welcome development particularly as it would encourage parents to ensure active participation of their children to learn and focus on the need to acquire the much-needed education.

She stressed that the scholarship will no doubt, “help more children in Nigeria gain access to opportunities that will help explore their potentials, which otherwise may not be possible without generosity of this kind.”

The educationist further extolled the initiative and its proponents including Slot Systems Ltd, for taking the issue of corporate social responsibility seriously.

Manager of Ikotun showroom of the outfit, Mr. Henry Eddoh, said, “We recognise primary school education as essential and key to the success of Nigeria’s future; as such, we are encouraging parents to play more active roles in their children’s education.

Good education is essential for minimising negative effects of illiteracy that emanate from the future of poorly-educated children.” Eddoh advised.

Proprietress and Head of Administration of CANI School, Ms Gbemi Aminu, in her remarks pointed out that since CANI started in 2012, scholarship awards to children in its host community has become an integral part of its culture.

She said: “We recognise qualitative education as key to grooming children. If a child is equipped with adequate knowledge and intellectual prowess, it will in the long term contribute to the success and benefit of the family, which in turn has a positive effect on the community and our country Nigeria.

CANI therefore expresses its social responsibility in practical terms. Giving free education to children is our own way of giving back to the environment in which we operate.”
