UBEC directs SUBEB’s to set up quality assurance units

THE Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), has directed all State Universal Basic Education Boards (SUBEB’s), to set up quality assurance departments in their domains in order to ensure quality monitoring and supervision of all the schools under them.

  They have also been directed to set aside N10 million each for the training of personnel of the units to ensure effective performance. 

  Speaking during the workshop/training programme for supervisors, education secretaries, inspectors, heads of departments of schools in the 27 council area of Imo State, which it jointly organised with the Imo State Universal Basic Education (IMSUBEB), Executive Secretary of the UBEC, Dr. Dikko Suleiman, mandated all states to implement the directive, which was arrived at during the 13 Quarterly meeting of UBEC management with chairmen of SUBEBs in Guau, Zamfara state.

 While commending the host state government for giving effect to the directive, Suleiman represented by the Zonal Coordinator of the UBEB South South, Mr. Sylvester Enyinnaya said: “All SUBEBs were therefore, requested to include the training of quality assurance personnel in their 2014 action plan using a minimum of N10, 000, 000. 00) only. 

  “Training and re-training of quality assurance officers will now be an integral component of the Teacher Professional Development (TPD). As a result, SUBEBs were required to include training in quality assurance in their TPD action plans with effect from 2014.”
