Kantin Kwari Market Fire: Excitement as Kano State donates N100 million to support victims
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has announced the donation of N100 million to support traders that lost their valuables during the fire incident that affected a section of the popular Kantin Kwari Textile Market in Kano. The Governor announced the donation on Thursday when he led top government functionaries on a solidarity visit to the scene of the inferno.
Extending his deepest sympathy to those affected and the business community, Yusuf stressed that the state government share the pain inflicted by the unfortunate disaster and regrets the setback to commercial activities in the city.
While explaining that the donation is meant to mitigate the impact of damages to individual investments in the market, Alhaji Yusuf assured the traders of the intervention of Kano State Government to improving conducive business environment and commercial activities through installation of solar lights, rehabilitation of road network, construction of drainages and provision of motorized boreholes among others.
He, however, implored management of the market to initiate programmes that would assist traders to conduct their daily businesses without hitches, adding that plans are underway to restore the pride status of Kano as commercial nerve centre of Northern Nigeria and sub-sahara Africa.
Earlier, the Managing Director of Kantin Kwari Market Management Board, Alhaji Hamisu Sa’ad Dogon Nama hinted that 29 shops were razed by the fire, even as he appreciated quick response of operatives of the Fire Service and other kind-spirited Nigerians who fought bravely to contain the fire from spreading.
In his appreciation message, the chairman of the Market Elders Committee, Alhaji Sabu’u Bako thanked Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his concern to the plight of affected traders and called on the governor’s help to solve some of the problems bedeviling smooth operations of the market.
