A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Oladipo Olasope, a lecturer at the Faculty of Law, Lead City University, Ibadan, Dr. Aderonke Adegbite and a Law scholar, Prof. Olu Ojedokun, have urged the new Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi to observe the rule of law in carrying out his responsibilities as the chief law officer of the country.

They made the call in a chat with The Guardian in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
Prof. Ojedokun charged him to strengthen the anti-corruption agencies.
Ojedokun said: “He must focus on the rule of law and government’s adherence to obeying court orders, strengthening the anti-corruption agencies, bringing to them greater professionalism and diligence.

Olasope urged the Attorney-General to strengthen the State Security Service (SSS) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The SAN said: “The Attorney-General is a seasoned legal practitioner who will reform the justice sector. I also expect an improvement in the obedience to court orders by government agencies. In addition, I believe he will make those agencies like SSS and EFCC better.”

On her part, Dr. Adegbite, said she expects Fagbemi to perform well.
She, however, said the present system for legal education needs some healthy and objective interventions, urging Fagbemi to do some audits to enthrone fair and just processes in legal education.

She said: “I trust he will act well. However, the present system for legal education needs some healthy and objective interventions. He needs to do some audits to enable fair and just processes for producing lawyers from admission processes to call to bar.”
