Proprietress highlights benefits of vocational studies to pupils
Proprietress, Fortlad Private Schools, Mushin, Lagos, Mrs. Omosule Suzan Folayemi, has charged graduating students of the school to judiciously utilise the skills acquired through vocational training programme.
The skills she said would help them in the long run, either in their academic pursuits, or as budding entrepreneurs, as contemporary realities require every individual to possess at least, one form of skill or the other.
At the valedictory service/prize-giving day in honour of the “Class of 2016,” Folayemi enjoined them to spice their leisure periods with further vocational training as this guarantees self-reliance and independence.
She advised parents to always provide their wards with the necessary support for the training, adding that, “the idea of this vocational training is to make the students to be self-reliant, which is the main goal of education. For instance, at the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), an undergraduate must include one vocational study in his/her programme. This further underscores the importance of vocational studies to every students.”
While congratulating the graduands for the successful completion of their studies, she assured that, “Like eagles, these students will soar higher, becoming great citizens of this nation. They will exalt the name of the Almighty God and that of their families, not forgetting Fortlad, the source of their achievements.”
She reminded them that there was no short cut to success, saying, “You must be hardworking, focused and determined. To those of you who received prizes today, keep it up and to those remaining students, sit up and be serious.”
Folayemi said the school remains committed to building a total child, “catching them young, so that when they get to the university level, they will excel with ease.”
Principal of the college, Mr. Babatunde Nurudeen, who challenged the graduands to dream big, counseled them to also work towards actualising their dreams.
He urged them to be good ambassadors of their parents and the school by avoiding those habits that could hinder their academic pursuits and career in life. “Cherish the valuable lessons you have learnt, these are recipes for success.”
