A Non-Govermental Organisation (NGO), Femme Lead Africa, is set to empower 5,000 school girls with educational materials to enhance their capacities as they navigate the journey of life.

The project was propelled by the need to fully equip young girls for life’s experiences.

For the first part of the project, where more than 500 students were empowered, part of the materials provided in the empowerment scheme was a book, titled, ‘Dear Girl’, an expository piece that explores critical topics such as puberty management, gender rights, self-esteem, addressing and reporting abuse and career positioning.

The schools visited were Government Model Girls School, Abak and Stella Maris Girls College, Ukanafun. Both in Akwa Ibom State.

The book, containing true stories shared by women, serves as a guide for young girls as they progress in life.

Founder of the organisation, Ofon Emmanuel, said the empowerment was undertaken to ensure that girls are properly equipped to fulfil their dreams in the long run.

“We are dedicated to providing the girls and women with capacity building programmes and initiatives needed to achieve their dreams and overcome challenges that come with being a girl,” she said.

According to her, the project would also comprise workshops, mentoring sessions and other activities aimed at nurturing the skills and self-confidence of the girls.
