Balogun’s HCTM to revolutionise global healthcare system
Burdened by escalating cyber threats facing the healthcare sector, putting kit under immense pressure to safeguard sensitive patient data, renowned Cybersecurity Expert Adebayo Yusuf Balogun has developed groundbreaking research and an innovative encryption solution called the ‘Hybrid Cryptographic Transition Model’ (HCTM), poised to revolutionise the global healthcare system.
According to him, HCTM is specifically designed to facilitate a seamless transition from classical encryption to quantum-resistant cryptography, ensuring the long-term security of sensitive patient data.
He said this is particularly crucial, as the emergence of quantum computing threatens to render traditional encryption algorithms obsolete.
“Electronic health records (EHRs) contain highly sensitive personal and medical information, making them prime targets for cybercriminals employing ransomware, phishing attacks, and advanced persistent threats (APTs). With healthcare organisations increasingly relying on interconnected digital systems, securing patient data has never been more critical.
“The emergence of quantum computing presents a significant threat to traditional encryption algorithms such as RSA and Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC). Quantum decryption techniques like Shor’s algorithm are poised to render these encryption methods obsolete, potentially exposing vast amounts of sensitive healthcare data to cybercriminals,” he said.
He said HCTM was developed to enable healthcare organisations to integrate post-quantum cryptographic algorithms, while maintaining backward compatibility with existing encryption infrastructures.
Balogun’s contributions have gained significant recognition from industry leaders, academic scholars, and cybersecurity policymakers worldwide.
His expertise has played a crucial role in strengthening regulatory frameworks such as HIPAA and GDPR, ensuring that encryption standards within the healthcare sector align with next-generation cybersecurity challenges.
He is also a Fellow of the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) and actively influences healthcare security policies and compliance strategies, helping institutions navigate the rapidly changing regulatory landscape.
