Olowu of Kuta urges traditional rulers to uphold cultural heritage
The Olowu of Kuta, HRM Oba Dr. Hammeed Adekunle Oyelude Makama, CON, Tegbosun III, has emphasised the importance of traditional rulers staying true to their mandate as custodians of culture and tradition.
Oba Makama stated this during the Ramadan Lecture held at his palace on Saturday.
He stressed that traditional rulers are the symbols of culture and tradition within their jurisdictions, and it is their duty to promote and preserve their cultural heritage.
The monarch noted that traditional rulers are not crowned in churches or mosques, and therefore, should not prioritise religious affiliations over their cultural responsibilities.
“Any traditional ruler who wants to champion religion should either go to Jerusalem or Saudi Arabia,” he added.
The guest lecturer, Sheikh Ibrahim Arowona Annakeb, delivered a lecture titled “Love,” stressing its importance in human relationships.
He encouraged Muslim faithful to love one another, stressing that love is crucial in reverence to God and humanity.
The event featured the distribution of foodstuffs and groceries to the poor and less privileged, with Oba Makama using the opportunity to share essential items with the community.
Prince Adewole Adebayo, a former presidential candidate, commended Oba Makama and the traditional rulers present for demonstrating true love and unity.
He commended the unique display of camaraderie among the monarchs, saying it was a testament to the power of love and unity.
Oba Makama also used the opportunity to call on governments at all levels to remember the poor, especially during the Ramadan fasting period.
