Lagos mainland begins synod Thursday

The Bishop of Badagry, Rt. Rev. (Dr.) Babatunde Joseph Adeyemi will preach the sermon on the goodness of God’s creation at the opening service of the third session of the fifth synod of the Anglican Diocese of Lagos Mainland opening on Thursday, May 20, 2021, at the Cathedral Church of St. Jude, Ebute Meta, Lagos.

The four-day synod, which ends on Sunday, May 23 will focus on the challenges of the environment to mankind. Themed: “All things bright and beautiful” taken from Genesis 1:31, the official business of the synod opens on May 21, 2021, at All Saints’ Church, Yaba, Lagos. The closing service returns to the Cathedral where the retired Bishop of Kwara, Most Rev (Dr.) Olusegun Adeyemi will address, “Creation: God’s intention and Man’s responsibility.”

The synod will attract delegates from various churches in the diocese and friends from Christendom and civil society to examine urgent issues facing the church and society. The Bishop of Lagos Mainland, Rt. Rev Akinpelu Johnson as chief host will preside over the deliberations and will deliver a state-of-the-church-and-nation address.

Recommendations drawn at the end will be shared with members of the 15-year old diocese and the larger society to drive the focus of the church for the year.
