One of the wives of the Ooni of Ife, Folashade Ashley Adegoke, has explained why she referred to her newborn son as the “crown prince.”

On September 3, 2024, the couple welcomed their baby boy, and Folashade, in an Instagram post, explained that the joyful event came after the painful experience of losing a twin pregnancy. In her post, she referred to her son as a “crown prince.”

The post stirred reactions on social media, with some people questioning why she used that title since the Ooni already has two sons – Tadenikawo from his estranged wife, Naomi, and Oreade from his other wife, Tobi Phillips.

However, in a recent Instagram post, Folashade addressed the controversy, saying that her son has royal blood from both his mother’s and father’s sides.

She encouraged mothers to speak positively about their children’s lives.

She also thanked her husband for his unwavering support throughout her pregnancy and expressed deep love for him.

“Thank you, Olodumare, for a blessed pregnancy journey, which was sacred for my husband and me, kept away from the public eye, to the glory of God,” she wrote.

She went on to appreciate her husband, saying, “To my ever-loving and supportive husband, who was with me every step of the way, praying daily. You are my world, my crown jewel, Erujeje Adimula Oko Mi, Ikoyi Esho Mi. Nothing compares to your love, and I love you forever with all my being.”

She also expressed gratitude to her sister for managing her social media during the pregnancy, and to her personal assistant, who handled things while she prepared to welcome their child.

Folashade explained that her son is royal by birth from both sides: “A prince from his mother’s side of Ooni Adagba Royal Compound of Lafogido ruling house, and a prince from his father’s side of Ooni Agbedegbede Royal Compound of Giesi ruling house, both connected to the royal throne of Oduduwa.”

She urged mothers to use their words to uplift their children: “Call your children what you want them to be in life. Speak life into them, let them know their purpose and destiny. It’s your right and duty as a mother.”

She concluded by encouraging mothers not to shy away from speaking positively into their children’s lives: “There’s power in your tongue. Use it on your children without apology. Don’t let anyone make you feel pressured.”
