How will the winner be chosen?

Since late October, contestants have been arriving in Mexico for galas, tours, and special events. The Preliminaries and National Costume Show will be held on 14th November, after which fans can vote for their favourites to advance to the semifinals.

On the big night, 30 contestants will compete in the swimsuit round, and only 18 will advance. These semifinalists will move on to the evening gown parade, where another seven will be eliminated. The final top five will then face a decisive question session to determine the winner.

Spotlight on inclusivity

This year’s pageant celebrates diversity and inclusion like never before:

Nigeria’s Chidimma Vanessa Adetshina has a remarkable story. She initially contested in Miss South Africa but withdrew due to citizenship issues. Now proudly representing Nigeria, she aims to make her country shine in a competition where Nigeria has participated only twice in its history.

Miss Universe Somalia, Khadija Omar, makes history as the first hijabi contestant representing her country. Born in Kenya’s Hagadera refugee camp, she moved to Canada in 2010 and now uses her platform to promote diversity.

Logina Salah, representing Egypt, is an advocate for vitiligo awareness and the first participant with the condition to compete for the crown.

Africa’s hopefuls

African countries are well-represented this year, with participants from Angola, Somalia, Botswana, Cameroon, Nigeria, and more.

Fans are particularly excited to see if another African contestant can follow in the footsteps of Zozibini Tunzi, who made history in 2019 as the first Black woman with natural afro-textured hair to win the crown.

Will an African queen bring the crown home again? The stage is set, and all eyes are on Mexico City to find out.
