The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) claimed a sweeping victory in Bauchi State, winning all 20 Local Government chairmanship seats in the Local Government elections held on Saturday, August 17.

The Chairman of the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC), Ahmed Makama, announced the results late Saturday night, confirming PDP’s victory across all Local Government Areas.

According to Makama, the results were declared in accordance with his legal powers under electoral laws.

However, the All Progressives Congress (APC) rejected the results, alleging that the election was rigged and describing it as a “blatant robbery” of the electorate’s rights.

The APC’s legal adviser in Bauchi State, Barrister Rabiu Garba, accused the PDP-led government of staging a “deceptive drama” and undermining democracy.

Garba cited various irregularities, including inadequate election materials, lack of returning officers, and failure to conduct elections in numerous polling units.

The APC has demanded the resignation of BASIEC’s chairman and called for the cancellation of the election results.

Despite PDP’s dominance, smaller opposition parties managed to secure some councillor positions. For instance, Samira Maikano of the Young Progressive Party (YPP) won in Wandi Ward, Dass Local Government Area, while Yunusa Muhammed of the African Action Congress (AAC) claimed victory in Darazo Local Government Area’s Papa North Ward.

The newly elected chairmen are set to be sworn in today, August 18, at the Bauchi Government House.
