The President-Elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, on Sunday commended the forgiving spirit of the Emir of Borgu in Borno, Dr Halliru Dantoro, and others, who were detained under his military rule.

Buhari ruled the country from December 1983 to July 1985, after a coup overthrowing President Shehu Shagari.

According to a statement released in Abuja and signed by Malam Garba Shehu, Director Media and Publicity, APC Presidential Campaign Organisation, Buhari said leaders such as the Emir never held it against him that they were detained.

It said the Emir had gone ahead to establish very strong and cherished personal relationship with him.

The statement said as Commander-in-Chief in a military dispensation, responsibility for all actions of government belonged to him, even when he never gave orders for some of the actions to be taken.

In a speech he delivered while receiving the Emir, who led his Council members on a congratulatory visit, Buhari mentioned Malam Adamu Ciroma, a former Minister of Finance and Agriculture, as one of those with forgiving spirit.

“I accept the goodwill of all such past leaders who did not hold me personally responsible for the actions of the military government.

“I promise the nation that as an elected president, I will ensure equity, fairness and justice for all,” the statement read.

Buhari, in the statement, felicitated with all Christians on Easter.

Earlier, the statement quoted the Emir as saying that Buhari’s second coming was divine, to redeem and reunite the nation.

He pledged the total support of his people to the in-coming administration.

Maybe he did not give the order for the action but he did nothing the mitigate it. I sincerly hope that this time around, Shagari delivers forr Nigeria the way nobody has.

We will be giving General Buhari the benefits of doubt, but he should not expect a lavish dinner to be hosted in his honor, he has some blood in his hand, and God is giving him a rare opportunity at an advanced age to atone for his sins and hopefully redeem himself from past guilt and misdeeds.

Just when will Buhari formally asks Nigerians for forgiveness for the evils he committed against Nigerian democracy? The fact that he emerged a winner in a flawed elections after all his threats to shed blood if he lost the elections does not right the evils he wreaked on our democracy.

“The fact that he emerged a winner in a flawed elections.” No, you did not write this. Keep on reaping where you did not sow. You just insulted millions of Nigerians who waited for hours to
cast votes – Patriotic Nigerians contributing to the nations development instead of running abroad as you did. Please educate yourself on the happenings back @ home and you will learn – this is the dawn of a new Nigeria. Please have an open mind on issues back home and be informed. Have a nice day.

George-USA. Try and understand issues BEFORE making silly comments. Who flawed the election? Go to youtube and see PDP rigging LIVE. Who asked for blood? Go and google Dokubo Asari–he is PDP asking for blood. Someone abroad has MORE research facilities than those at home. Show knowledge not stupidity.

Nigeria is back to dictatorships. Buhari is the face of Nigerian dictatorships that entrenched impunity and corruption. Now he’s back with his cohorts of corrupt political prostitutes.
