Elections duty: IGP embarks on election monitoring/patrol, visits Kaduna, Plateau by road
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, in the quest to bolster election security management of the Nigeria Police and further assess the policing strategies along Abuja, Kaduna and Plateau State routes for the general safety of road users in the axis, embarked on an election monitoring patrol by road across the states to assure residents and electorates of their security during and after the elections.
The IGP’s patrol convoy took off on Saturday, March 18, 2023, from the FCT Abuja and proceeded to cover all the areas along the Abuja – Jere – Kwoi – Kafanchan – Jos – and Kaduna axis.
According to a police spokesman, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, “The IGP also took time to make strategic stops at polling units along the axis covered and interfaced with senior officers of the NPF, the military, paramilitary, and traditional rulers.
“Furthermore, the Inspector-General of Police assured citizens that the Police will remain committed to securing the nation for the safety of citizens even after the elections.
“He also urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police. The patrol continues today, Sunday, as the IGP is expected to return to Abuja later today.”
Deputy Inspectors-General of Police were deployed by the IGP to the six Geo-Political Zones to oversee the election security management ahead of the 18th March elections.
The DIGs who represent each of the country’s Geo-Political zones at the Force Management level have been deployed to superintend over the security emplacements in their respective zones so as to ensure that security is watertight and electorates enjoy an atmosphere devoid of harassment, intimidation and threats.
The DIGs and their phone numbers are DIG Moses Jitoboh, (South-South 08064950806); DIG John Amadi, (South-East 07038342417); DIG Ali Janga, (North-East 08030747724); DIG Hafiz Inuwa, (North-West 08181255950); and DIG Adeleke Adeyinka, (North Central 08033440189/08032875937) who doubles as the DIG Operations supervising the elections from the Force Headquarters.
The IGP had charged the DIGs, who are being assisted by Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) and Commissioners of Police (CPs) at the States and Senatorial Districts and other Senior Officers at Local Government Areas, to adopt both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches towards delivering a more secured and credible electoral process in their respective zones.
