Group canvasses APC support for Osunbor as former Reps dump PDP for LP in Edo
A non-governmental organization, African Green Peace Initiative led by Dr Uzoya Okougbosun has called on the Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to give its gubernatorial ticket for the 2024 elections in the state to Prof. Oserheimen Osunbor because he has the vision to redeem the state.
Speaking to newsmen in Benin City on the rationale for the group’s call, Okougbosun who is the President of the organization said, “It is going to take a human and visionary personality like His Excellency Professor Oserheimen Osunbor to redeem Edo state from the current decay, hopelessness and deadly existence”.
Comparing Osunbor with former Governor of the defunct Bendel State, Prof. Ambrose Alli, he said the gubernatorial aspirant is, “a devout Christian”, “…a God fearing and self-effacing leader”, “who is an embodiment of knowledge in every sphere of life i.e intellectual, humanity and altruism “.
According to the African Green Peace Initiative President, during the period Osunbor served as governor before he was ousted by the Court he, “Emphasized that administration and governance of any society is for the upliftment of the human race”.
He said, “These Virtues were exemplified by him when as Executive Governor of Edo state for the short period of his administration increased the monthly subvention payable to the State University- Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma and other tertiary institutions in the State”.
Okougbosun said “He created a credit system whereby public officers and civil servants were able to access loans for agricultural purposes” adding that, “In his compassionate nature he thought it wise to pay bursary to Edo students in tertiary institutions across the country”.
Okuogbosun noted that Osunbor as governor in his short time in power had a visionary leadership style which saw him embark on massive infrastructure development of the State describing him as the one sent to take Edo to the New age like the sage late Prof. Ambrose Alli.
Meanwhile, a former member, House of Representatives, Sergius Ogun has joined the Edo governorship race on the platform of the Labour Party.
Ogun said he decided to join the LP because the Labour Party represent the common man.
Ogun who represented Esan North East/South East in the 8th & 9th National Assembly, said he believes in the party because the party struggle for a better society will liberate Edo people in the forthcoming Governorship election.
“I believe in the people, and Labour Party stands for the ordinary people; the ordinary Nigerians, the commoners, the downtrodden of this country. So, we must use the Labour Party platform to liberate the common man in the street.
“Labour government in Osadebey Avenue come 2024 will liberate the common man in this state. We are here to work on the ordinary people, and we are going to do that through the local government councils,” he added.
Ogun said under his government, the 18 local government councils in the state will be given autonomy, adding “whatever money due to the local government councils, they will get. Where the state government needs to collaborate with the local government councils, we will do that. When we have functioning local government councils in this state, life will become bearable in this state.”
