Gunmen kill two police officers in Rivers, snatch riffles

Yet to be identified gunmen have killed two Police Officers attached to Mile One Police Station, Diobu, in Port Harcourt Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The Guardian gathered that the two officers were gunned down by the suspected hoodlums during a stop and search at the popular Okija street in the Diobu axis of the city.
An eyewitness told newsmen that the police were taken unawares as the gunmen who were ridding on a vehicle swooped on the Police Officers and shot at them.
He said the policemen died on the spot before help could come their way.
The Rivers State Police Command Public Relation Officer, SP Nnamdi Omoni, has confirmed the killings.
He said the Command is investigating the sad development and working to apprehend the culprits.
Omoni, confirmed that an AK-47 rifle was carted away from one of the slain cop, stating that the vehicle used by the gunmen was abandoned at the scene.
Omoni said, “I can confirm the attack by unknown gunmen on our men posted to Okija Street on stop and search.
“Two Police officers were killed. Investigation has been ordered by the Commissioner of Police.
“One Toyota Corrola, with Reg. No. Rivers ABU 380 AW, used by the attackers was abandoned. One AK47 Rifle belonging to one of the officers carted away.”
