Kano insists on January 31 ultimatum for re-certification of properties
Kano State Ministry of Land has vowed to commence enforcement of revocation of titles of land that failed the 31st deadline for recertification.
The Ministry disclosed the commencement of the process of Systematic Land Title Registration (SLTR) documents on land before the issuance of the regular Certificate of Occupancy.
Addressing a press conference Friday, Commissioner for Land Abduljabbar Umar reiterated the ultimatum given to owners of titles for the renewal of their document still stands and urged residents to obey the government directive to safeguard their properties.
“The recertification deadline of 31st January 2025 still stands, I repeat the recertification deadline of 31 January 2025 still stands; we urge all those that have not yet recertified their documents to do so before the deadline to protect and secure their land-related properties,” he said.
“We are pleased to announce that since our announcement at the last press conference on 18th December 2024, the Citizens of Kano State have positively responded to our calls to recertify their land-titled documents in droves.
“We are proud to proclaim that we have had over one million distinct recertification-related interactions covering everything from conversion to name change and actual recertification applications.
“The KANGIS Service Centre is open for business and is already attending to thousands of people per day both online via our website, physically at our offices and even on the phone. We strongly encourage everyone to hurry and recertify their title documents or process the new title documents before the 31st of January 2025, to avoid any unpleasant experience.”
The government in 2024 directed property owners to recertify their landed property on or before 31st January 2025. The reinforcement of new documentation for new registration or renewal of existing properties across the state was made in the public interest.
The new development spearheaded by the Ministry of Laad and physical planning through the Kano State Geographic Information System (KANGIS) is being taken to validate properties and protect the investment from future disputes.
