Labour Party chair hails Tinubu for showing leadership with media chat
The Chairman of the Labour Party (LP) in Oyo State, Atayese Tunji Sadiq, on Tuesday, said President Bola Tinubu’s media chat was strategically timed.
Tinubu had a media engagement with some select journalists on Monday in Ikoyi, Lagos State.
Sadiq, who reacted to the chat while speaking with The Guardian in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, said the president demonstrated the character of a strong leader who knew what he was doing.
The LP boss argued that the president spoke about his policies, especially the subsidy removal and the floating of the exchange rate.
“He demonstrated the character of a strong leader who knew what he was doing. He maintained his position that it was the right thing to do, and he had no regret doing it. He demonstrated responsibility as he stood by all his ministerial appointees. That is, “the buck stops at my table,” he said.
“Like the subsidy removal, he affirmed that the tax reforms are here to stay no matter what anybody says even though he said there’s always removal for negotiation and review. This is an attribute of someone who had done his homework very well and was convinced of its results beyond any doubt.
“His outlook on agriculture and automotive industry based on the abundance of requisite raw materials gives hope for the coming years.
“He challenged every citizen to a course in economic management. Put off your light when you don’t need it to reduce your energy bill. He confirmed there are leakages but we can’t do it all in a calendar year, which is the absolute truth.”
The chairman, however, charged the president to look for ways of alleviating people’s suffering.
“With all these, I would surprise you that we need to allow the implementation of the various reforms to mature in order to reap the benefits.
“However, he should keep looking inward on how to alleviate some pains of the reforms to a bearable level for a category of people, the masses. Their well-being is the hallmark of good governance.”
