The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has urged all employers of labour to submit their yearly tax returns on or before the stipulated deadline of January 31, 2024 in accordance with applicable tax legislation.

LIRS Executive Chairman, Ayodele Subair, stated this in a statement signed by the Head, Corporate Communications of LIRS, MonsuratAmasa, yesterday.

According to the LIRS executive chairman, all businesses and employers of labour residents within the state must file their yearly income tax returns on or before January 31, 2024, as failure to comply with the directive would attract penalties as well as other statutory sanctions as stipulated in Section 81 (2) of the Personal Income Tax Act (PITA) Cap P8 LFN 2004 (as amended).

Subair, who reiterated that the exclusive platform for filing the yearly income tax returns in Lagos State is the LIRS e-Tax portal: https://etax.lirs.net, against the manual filing, urged businesses and employers to leverage the e-tax portal for filing, citing its user-friendly, convenient, and secure.

“The e-Tax portal is designed for the convenience of tax-payers, making tax transactions easily accessible from the comfort of homes and offices,” Subair noted.
He emphasised that the taxpayer ID is a mandatory requirement for all employers to file their yearly income tax returns on the e-Tax portal saying that employers within the state are advised to generate a tax-payer ID (where applicable) for their employees and to file their P.A.Y.E returns through the e-tax portal.
