NAPTIP, ICMPD trains teachers on combating human trafficking
The School Anti-Trafficking Education and Advocacy Project (STEAP), on Tuesday, launched a Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop to strengthen efforts against human trafficking through education in Edo State.
Speaking at the workshop, Dr. Mojisola Sodeinde, ICMPD Head of Region, said the workshop was to equip teachers and trainers from Nigerian Colleges of Education with essential knowledge and tools to combat human trafficking.
Represented by Rhoda Dia-Johnson, Sodeinde said Human trafficking remains a pervasive issue in Nigeria, with West Africa experiencing alarmingly high rates of trafficking among minors.
Sodeinde said that ICMPD in collaboration with NAPTIP, has been working since 2019 with the National Commission for Colleges of Education to infuse Trafficking in Persons (TIP) concepts into the Minimum Standards for Teacher Education in Nigeria.
Sodeinde added that to support the campaign against Human Trafficking, “ICMPD facilitated the training of 500 teacher-trainers across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones to launch this anti-trafficking curriculum in teacher training programs nationwide.

In his remarks, Mr. Josiah Emerole, representing NAPTIP’s Director General, Binta Adamu Bello, underscored the significance of integrating the new anti-trafficking curriculum into teacher training programs.
He said, “This initiative reflects NAPTIP’s strong commitment to equipping educators with the skills to recognize and prevent human trafficking risks among young people. By embedding these critical concepts into teacher education, we are building a sustainable defence within our educational system to protect the next generation.”
