National Auditor ASCSN and Delta TUC Chairman, Nwachukwu,receives honorary Doctorate Degree

The National Auditor of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) and Chairman of the TUC Delta State Council, Sir Bolum Martin Nwachukwu JP., has been awarded an honorary Doctorate Degree in Philosophy by the Academy of Human Resource and Management Practitioners, United Kingdom. Nwachukwu, who also serves as the South-South Chairman of the TUC and the Delta State Chairman of ASCSN, has long been a pivotal figure in advancing workers’ rights and union development across Nigeria. His dedication to improving working conditions, protecting workers’ rights, and promoting fair labor policies has earned him respect both nationally and internationally. This honorary degree adds to a growing list of accolades that celebrate his tireless efforts in the labor movement.

The award ceremony, held virtually from the UK, was attended by several dignitaries from academic, political, and labor sectors. In his remarks, Comrade Bolum Martin Nwachukwu expressed his deep gratitude for the recognition, emphasizing that the honor was not just a personal achievement, but a collective victory for the labor movement and the workers he represents.

“I dedicate this honorary doctorate to the countless workers who have stood by me through the years,” Nwachukwu said. “This is for all those who continue to fight for better wages, improved working conditions, and a brighter future for the working class in Nigeria.”

Born and raised in Delta State, Comrade Bolum Martin Nwachukwu has risen through the ranks of labor activism over the past two decades. He began his journey as a dedicated member of the ASCSN, where his leadership skills quickly became evident. As the National Auditor of ASCSN, he is working tirelessly to ensure that the union’s financial resources are properly managed, advocating for greater transparency and accountability within the organization. His efforts have been instrumental in pushing for stronger regulations governing the treatment of workers across various industries, including oil and gas, education, and healthcare.

Comrade Nwachukwu’s advocacy has extended far beyond financial management. As the South-South Chairman of the TUC, he has led numerous campaigns addressing critical issues facing workers in the region, including unsafe working conditions, inadequate compensation, and labor exploitation.

His work with the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) further underscores his commitment to public sector employees. Under his leadership, the association has advocated for improved wages, better pensions, and greater job security for senior civil servants.

The honorary doctorate from the Academy of Human Resource and Management Practitioners (AHRMP) is a testament to Nwachukwu’s influence in the field of human resource management and organizational leadership. The AHRMP, a prestigious UK-based institution, specializes in fostering leadership in human resource management and recognizing individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership in their respective fields.

In awarding Nwachukwu the honorary degree, the Academy acknowledged his “exceptional contributions to the development of labor relations, human resource practices, and social justice within Nigeria.” This further solidifies his standing as a leading figure in both African and global labor movements.

Despite his newly acquired honorary title, Nwachukwu remains steadfast in his commitment to advancing workers’ rights. In a follow-up interview, he revealed that his focus will now shift to strengthening partnerships between Nigerian labor unions and international organizations. His vision includes not only improving the conditions of Nigerian workers but also expanding opportunities for cooperation between labor unions across the African continent and their global counterparts.

“Being recognized internationally only strengthens my resolve to do more for the workers of Nigeria,” he said. “The road ahead is still long, but I believe that with unity and collective action, we can create the kind of labor environment that every Nigerian worker deserves.”

Bolum Nwachukwu is also the pioneer Director of Administration and Human Resources at the Delta State Contributory Health Commission, a position he has held since its inception in 2016. He has been instrumental in building the Human Resources and Administration structure of the Commission.

He is a member of several professional institutes, including the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management, where he holds membership, the Chartered Institute of Management, as a fellow, and a Chartered Management Consultant, among others.
