Navy releases promotions of senior officers
• Group cautions against politicising promotions in police
The Navy Board has approved the promotions of 203 naval officers to various senior ranks.
Breakdown of the promotions released showed that 122 lieutenant commanders were elevated to the rank of commander, 38 commanders were promoted to captain, 24 captains to the flag rank of commodore and 19 commodores were promoted to the flag rank of rear admiral.
Those newly promoted to the rank of rear admirals are Akano Adesope, Kennedy Egbuchulam, Nnamdi Muogilim, Aminu Hassan, Uduak Ibanga, Bamidele Oluwagbamila, Zakariyyah Muhammad, Ibrahim Shettima, Idi Abbas, Mohammed Abdullahi, Istifanus Albara, Samson Bura, Olusola Oluwagbire, Mustapha Hassan, Patrick Nwatu, Habila Zakaria, Sulaiman El-Ladan, Baratuaipri Iyalla and Kohath Levi.
The new commodores are Mohammed Wabi, Abolade Ogunleye, Mustapha Braimah, Yusuf Idris, Muhsin Abba, Vincent Gbaranwi, Madumom Ide, Suleiman Olorundare, Adedokun Siyanbade, Raheem Taofeek, Kabiru Tanimu, Johnson Adewoyin, Cajethan Aniaku, Anthony Kujoh, Abdulrahman Mohammed, Chinonyerem Oji, Adamu Yahaya, Chindo Yahaya, Kem Iheanacho, Jonathan Ajodo, Aminu Abdullahi, Usman Bala, Dickson Chigbata and Samuel Ogwu.
The Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas on behalf of officers, ratings and civilian staff of the Nigerian Navy, rejoices with the newly promoted officers and their families and charged them to rededicate themselves to their responsibilities.
He also admonished the promoted officers to remain loyal to the nation and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari.
MEANWHILE, a civil group in Delta State, Young Nigerian Rights Organisation, has urged the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, and Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Musiliu Smith, to ensure that promotions in the Nigeria Police are not politicised, saying such will be inimical to the growth of the security organisation.
The Director General, Comrade Victor Ojie, gave the caution yesterday in Asaba, following the alleged denial of about 300 Assistance Superintendents of Police (ASP) promotion.
“Over 300 police officers of course 38/39 and course 1 cadet inspectors were earlier denied promotion while some of their course mates are already wearing DSP ranks.
“It has always been a tradition to promote all officers who undertook the same course together, except in cases of disciplinary actions.
“The reason there is no equity in Nigeria Police is because some officers that are in the corridor of power always politicise promotion by giving recommendations to some officers based on the fact that they have godfathers either inside or outside the police force,” Ojie said.
He urged the IGP and chairman of police commission to allow equity and justice reign by promoting those whose promotions are being delayed. Ojie urged that the affected officers, when promoted, should be upgraded so that they can be at the same level with their mates, as long as there is no misconduct on their part that might have led to delay in their promotion.
