Concerned Rivers People have advised Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara to refrain from implicating Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike in his ongoing Supreme Court dispute. In a statement issued by Alex Nwogu, the group’s Public Relations Officer, CRP expressed dismay at attempts by certain factions to malign Wike following the dismissal of Fubara’s appeal against 27 elected lawmakers.
The statement recalled that the legal battle, which had lingered following Fubara’s appeal at the apex court, ended with the appeal being struck out or withdrawn—with costs imposed to underscore its frivolous nature. Nwogu noted that Fubara and his legal team had eventually retraced their steps, thereby affirming the legitimacy of the 27 lawmakers who represent their constituents at the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Nwogu also criticised federal lawmaker Ikenga Ugochinyere for positioning himself as an interpreter of judicial pronouncements, a role the group deemed inappropriate. He urged Fubara and his associates to abandon efforts to twist the facts and warned against employing third parties to tarnish the reputations of others. “Leave Wike alone as there is no basis to drag him into a matter that does not concern him,” Nwogu declared, adding that the truth will ultimately prevail.
The CRP statement further called on groups such as the Human Rights Writers Association and the Opposition Lawmakers Coalition to seek alternative pursuits rather than stoking a controversy that only serves to distract from the settled legal outcome. With the legal challenge now effectively concluded, the group urged all parties to focus on addressing more pressing issues affecting the state.
