Hit-and-run driver kills FUNAAB professor in Ogun community

A professor at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Professor Oladipo Ademuyiwa, was tragically killed in a hit-and-run accident on Sunday in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
The incident occurred on the newly rehabilitated Kemta-Somorin Road, where Professor Ademuyiwa was struck by a speeding vehicle while crossing the street.
Ademuyiwa, a professor of biochemical toxicology in his early sixties, was struck while crossing the newly rehabilitated Kemta-Somorin Road after alighting from a cab.
The driver fled the scene, leaving him fatally injured.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Chairman of the Ajebo Road Housing Estate Community Development Association, Dr. Ayo Ajasa, blamed the Ogun State Government for failing to install speed breakers despite repeated appeals.
Ajasa described the incident as preventable, noting that while speed bumps were placed on the Ilugun end of the road, similar safety measures were ignored in their estate.
He called for urgent government intervention, including the installation of speed breakers, lorry barriers, and clearer traffic signage to curb reckless driving.
“This road remains a death trap,” he warned, revealing that another accident occurred within 24 hours of the professor’s death.
