Abiodun reaffirms Ogun traditional institutions’ role in governance
The Ogun State governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has described the role of the traditional institution in the state as one of the prime movers of invaluable ideals and suggestions in assisting the present administration.
Speaking at the one-year coronation of the 23rd Dagburewe of Idowa, the governor stated that the stool has been placed on an enviable pedestal by the immediate past Dagburewe of Idowa, as the traditional ruler of essence, and his notable impact both in Ijebuland and the council of Obas in Ogun State cannot be overemphasized.
He said, “Therefore, commemorating the ascension of a monarch of this stature to the throne of his forebears is a significant event, and we cannot but congratulate Kabiyesi Oba Sikiru Kayode Okuribido on this historic feat of hoisting the banner high and keeping the flag flying.”
The governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Ganiyu Hamzat, stated that the preservation of customs and tradition, as well as the provision of leadership for the Idowa people, has not been taken lightly by Kabiyesi.
“As a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, Kabiyesi has etched his name in gold, and we are proud of his sterling qualities as a reliable partner of progress in the state,” he said.
“Government events like this are seen as a veritable ground for feeling the pulse of the inhabitants of a community about the reign of the monarch, and I must confess that I am highly impressed with the mammoth crowd that has come to witness this occasion of celebration—one year after the coronation anniversary of Kabiyesi. As you will all agree with me, this is a remarkable milestone in the history of the Idowa community.”
Speaking at the occasion, the Dagburewe of Idowa, Oba Sikiru Kayode Okuribido, stated that with the support of his people, he ascended the throne of his forebears and is determined to uphold the legacy of service, wisdom, and compassion that defines the royal heritage.
He explained that Idowa is a town steeped in rich culture, history, and tradition, noting that as one of the prominent towns in Ijebuland, it has always been a beacon of unity, resilience, and religious tolerance.
“The foundation of Idowa was laid by visionary leaders, and we owe a debt of gratitude to my predecessors on the throne. Their wisdom, sacrifice, and dedication have shaped the Idowa we see today.”
While appreciating the effort of the state governor, Dapo Abiodun, in his ascension to the throne, Oba Okuribido pointed out that the final approval, which culminated in the presentation of the staff of office, is a gesture etched in the annals of Idowa’s history, stressing that the governor’s recognition of the town’s historical significance and the unwavering support for the traditional institution exemplify a commitment to justice and equity.
