Family donates N100m, food items to orphanages in Lagos
The family of Tony Elumelu has donated food items and N10 million cash each to 10 orphanage homes across Lagos State.
The donations were flagged off by the chairperson of Avon Healthcare Limited, Dr Awele Elumelu, at the Hearts of Gold Hospice in Masha, Surulere.
The food items included essential staples, such as rice, beans, milk, sugar, and noodles.
The beneficiaries include Open Arms of Mercy Orphanage Home, Ago Palace Way, and Atunda Olu Home, Surulere, among others.
During the event, Elumelu emphasised the importance of continuous support for vulnerable children.
She stressed that the initiative reflects the philanthropic commitment of the Elumelu family to uplifting underprivileged communities and supporting those who dedicate their lives to caring for vulnerable children.
According to her, this act of kindness follows the recent donation of 1,800 bags of rice to households in Onicha-Uku, Aniocha North Local Council of Delta State, during the Yuletide season, also spearheaded by the UBA Chairman.
She said: “This is nothing new. We know there are children everywhere who need our help. It’s just one more place where we can assist.
“Everyone has to try in their little way to help. Whether through cash, kind, or time, the least we can do is support those who have dedicated their lives to helping these children.”
The group head of marketing corporate communication, United Bank of Africa (UBA), Alero Ladipo, stated that the financial donation was for medical requirements or anything they may need.
She noted that some homes needed money to pay for their rent, while some needed things like diapers for the children, among other things.
The founder of Hearts of Gold Children’s Hospice, Mrs Laja Adedoyin, expressed gratitude.
“We are humbled to welcome Mrs Elumelu. In the history of Heart of Gold Children’s Hospice, this has never happened. The magnitude of foodstuffs and the financial support is beyond belief. Food is life, and in Nigeria today, having food means having everything,” she said.
