Fire guts abandoned building at Alaka Estate, Lagos
An abandoned two-storey building at Block 131, D-Block, Alaka Estate, Iponri, Lagos, was gutted by fire on Sunday evening.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) reported that the fire engulfed the structure’s top floor, which comprised six flats and had been abandoned for three years.
The agency disclosed that the incident was reported through its toll-free emergency lines at about 8:26 p.m., with its Response Team arriving at the scene around 8:47 p.m. Upon arrival, officials discovered the building was in a deteriorated and unstable condition.
The cause of the fire is unknown. Due to the prompt response of emergency responders, no reported casualties or injuries occurred.
Confirming the incident, LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, said the agency’s Response Team, alongside the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the Police, successfully extinguished the fire and sensitised residents on the risks posed by the damaged structure.
He assured the public that LASEMA remains committed to preventing and responding promptly to emergencies across the state.
