The Kano State Police Command has arrested a notorious armed robber and recovered two AK-47 rifles with 47 rounds of live ammunition.

The public relations officer of the command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, told journalists in Kano that on August 5, 2024 at around “2am, a resident of Yandadi Village, Kunchi LGA, Kano State reported that armed robbers stormed his residence, attacked him, and robbed him of N15 million.”

The PPRO noted that the arrest was made possible by intelligence-led patrols conducted by a team of detectives, despite the ongoing nationwide protest.

The suspect was caught attempting to escape on a motorcycle with a sack containing the weapons and cash.

He added, “Despite managing the ongoing nationwide protest, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Dogo Garba, directed a team of detectives to conduct intelligence-led patrols to arrest the culprits and recover their operational weapons. On the same date at about 6am, the team arrested the principal suspect, Hassan Iliya, 35 years old, of Alhazawa Village, Musawa LGA, Katsina State, while attempting to escape on a motorcycle.”

He said the sum of N4,986,000 was also recovered from the suspect, Hassan Iliya, 35, of Alhazawa Village, Musawa LGA, Katsina State.

“A spot search revealed a sack containing two AK-47 rifles with 47 rounds of live ammunition and cash, totaling four million, nine hundred, and eighty-six thousand naira (N4,986,000.00). Investigation is ongoing,” he noted.

He added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Dogo Garba, has urged the public to remain patriotic and vigilant, reporting suspicious movements and activities to the police.
