The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has issued a default notice and intention-to-seal order to Atlantic Blue Hotel in Lekki Phase 1 for failing to comply with the state’s waste management regulations.

The enforcement action was announced by LAWMA’s Managing Director, Muyiwa Gbadegbesin, in a statement on Thursday.

According to Gbadegbesin, the hotel failed to engage its assigned Private Sector Participation (PSP) operator for proper waste collection and disposal, violating Lagos State’s waste management policies.

“For the avoidance of doubt, LAWMA will continue to enforce waste management laws aimed at maintaining a clean and sustainable environment across Lagos State,” Gbadegbesin said.

Gbadegbesin also noted that establishments are required to partner with authorized PSP operators, as stipulated in the state’s waste management policy.

According to him, this ensures that waste is collected, disposed of responsibly, and processed in line with global environmental best practices.

LAWMA also reminds all businesses and residents in Lagos to comply with waste management guidelines by promptly engaging authorized PSP operators and paying their waste management bills on time. Non-compliance disrupts the waste management process and poses a significant threat to the environment and public health.

Gbadegbesin urged Atlantic Blue Hotel and other defaulting entities to regularize their waste management arrangements immediately to avoid further sanctions, including the sealing of their premises.

“LAWMA remains resolute in its mission to achieve a cleaner, healthier Lagos and will not hesitate to enforce compliance.
