The Nasarawa State Police Command said it has arrested suspects who lured a businesswoman into a forest and strangled her to death.

This was made known on Sunday by the Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ranham Nansel, in a press statement made available to journalists in Lafia.

“The duo of Abubakar Ibrahim and Isah Ayuba of Shember village of Agwatashi, Obi Local Government State have been arrested by police detectives attached to Obi Division following a prolonged investigation of the abduction and subsequent killing of the victim, Felicia Namkywa, a petty trader.

“The arrest was sequel to a complaint lodged at Obi Divisional Police Headquarters that the trader had been missing for days, and all efforts to trace her whereabouts proved abortive.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was lured via phone call by one of the suspects, Abubakar Ibrahim, who was owing her the sum of Forty Thousand Naira (#40,000) and beckoned on her to come and purchase grains in one of the Fulani settlements (Ruga) of the area.

“Unknown to her, there was a sinister plan to take her life and dispossess her of her business capital.

“The suspects, upon interrogation, confessed to having lured and abducted the victim, took her deep into the forest where she was strangled to death, and her remains were dumped in a swamp.

“They also took away the sum of N550,000 that was found on the victim.”

The police said that the suspects subsequently led the police operatives to the scene where the decayed remains of the victim were recovered.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Shehu Nadada, has ordered the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department to swiftly conclude the investigation and charge the suspects to court for immediate prosecution.

The CP condoled with the family of the victim and urged them to remain calm while assuring them that justice would be served.
