The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has commended the Kwara State government for its prompt action against a schoolteacher who assaulted a corps member serving in the state.

In a statement issued yesterday, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mr Onifade Olaoluwa, described the government’s decision as a step that would deter future occurrences of such misconduct against corps members.

Onifade praised the state government for its swift response, stating that the measures taken demonstrated equity and reinforced the government’s commitment to the security and welfare of corps members. “The actionable measures by the state government will prevent future occurrences of such misdemeanours,” he said.

The NYSC coordinator also appreciated Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his continuous support of the scheme. He assured the governor of the scheme’s dedication to fulfilling its mandate in the state and urged corps members to remain law-abiding while contributing meaningfully to the state’s development.

The incident involved a teacher at Government Day Secondary School, Kulende, Ilorin, who allegedly assaulted a female corps member for not greeting the teachers properly.

Reports indicate that the corps member was beaten, and her NYSC uniform was torn during the altercation.

Following an investigation, the Kwara State government announced the demotion of the teacher, identified as Hajia Hamzat Fatimoh Nike, by two steps and her transfer from the school.
