The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a notorious armed robber, Olamide Adeniyi in Igando

The Lagos State Police Command on Wednesday confirmed the arrest of notorious armed robbery and cultism suspect, Olamide Adeniyi, in the Igando area of the state.

The suspect, popularly known as Morak, has for years been terrorising Lanre, Oko filling, and Egan in the Igando axis of Alimosho Local Government Area (LGA), Lagos State.

He was reported to have killed and maimed innocent citizens, disarmed police officers, and made off with their guns on several occasions.

It was alleged that he had been arrested multiple times before but was released. He was finally apprehended on Celestial Road in Igando while in operation with some of his associates in broad daylight on August 15, 2024.

Residents have called on the authorities to ensure he does not return to the area and expressed their appreciation to the Igando Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Kabir Suleiman, and his team for their efforts.

Speaking with The Guardian about the arrest, Lagos State Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Benjamin Hundeyin, said: “I cannot confirm that he has been arrested several times. Even if he had been arrested and released, it means there was no evidence found.

“If we arrest a person on suspicion of armed robbery and we search their house but find no gun or other incriminating evidence, the person will be released.

“Now, he has been arrested for armed robbery and cultism, and there is credible evidence. Therefore, there is no question of him being released without consequences. He has been transferred to the Headquarters, and the case is being handled.

“Our inter-agency collaboration remains intact, and we continue to leverage it to enhance general security measures, strengthen the legal framework, and ensure that laws are clear, enforceable, and support the police’s efforts in maintaining law and order.”

The Command also called on everyone to be security-conscious and vigilant, encouraging them to report any suspicious incidents to the nearest police station or call the Command’s control room at 08065154338 and 08063299264.
