The Borno State Police Command has re-arrested an escaped convict, Kyari Kur, in Gubio, 85 kilometres north of Maiduguri.

The Borno State Police Command has re-arrested an escaped convict, Kyari Kur, in Gubio, 85 kilometres north of Maiduguri.

Confirming the re-arrest of the 28-year-old convict, the Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Lawal Yusufu, stated yesterday in Maiduguri that Kur was serving a jail term for criminal conspiracy at the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Maiduguri.

The commissioner attributed Kur’s escape to the recent flooding in Maiduguri, which led to the collapse of the perimeter walls of the security custodian centre last month.

On how Kur was re-arrested, Yusufu said: “On October 10, police surveillance at Gubio Divisional Headquarters received a credible tip-off that Kur had been sighted in Gubio town.

“We swiftly responded to the information by arresting him. He had taken advantage of the flood disaster. The convict has already been profiled and will be handed over to the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) for further action.”

The commissioner, therefore, appreciated the cooperation of the general public and urged them to continue to provide credible and timely information on the activities of suspected criminals.

“Public members are to report any suspicious activities or information on fugitives to the nearest police station.”
